El Camino College Center for the Arts — Marsee Auditorium (Torrance, CA)
They’ve only been together since 2011, but award-winning composer Alan Chan and his acclaimed 17-piece orchestra have already scored high praise from the industry bible DownBeat for giving “Los Angeles a jazz big band with an utterly unique tonal personality.” Influenced by Chan’s multicultural background, his compositions weave a musical story, while still leaving room for solo improvisation from his talented ensemble of veteran L.A. musicians. They followed up their first EP, Rancho Calaveras, with the 2014 release of Shrimp Tale, a full-length CD that won excellent reviews. The group is set to perform cuts from both at El Camino College Center for the Arts.
