From the Root Zine has been publishing writing and visual arts from women of colour for almost a year. So to celebrate we’re launching a party! Be sure to expect amazing performances, incredible music, plus we’ll be launching our second issue — BODY! Plus there’ll be a sneak peek of what’s our third issue theme will be.
First published independently March of 2014, From the Root zine seeks to counteract the lack of publications from authors and visual artists of colour in literary magazines and gallery spaces. Although taking the form of a zine, From the Root attempts to stand out beyond the cut and paste tradition of DIY zines and bridge the gap between a punk zine and a prestigeous literary journal.
