Vaccines have revolutionized children’s health in Canada. Globally, immunization saves up to 3 million children every year. So, why are so many children in sub-Saharan Africa still dying from diseases that are easily preventable with vaccines? Diseases like measles, diphtheria, and tetanus.

This free public talk will explore some of the reasons why children who need vaccines the most are still not getting them. And, what the global development community is doing to break down barriers.

SPEAKER: Ken Simiyu PhD, Program Officer, Grand Challenges Canada. Dr. Ken Simiyu completed his PhD at the Institute of Medical Sciences, University of Toronto, where he focused on health innovation in developing countries. He is currently a Program Officer at Grand Challenges Canada, where he leads the Stars in Global Health program that is designed to enable innovators in low- and lower-middle-income countries and Canada to develop their bold ideas with big impact to improve global health conditions.
