Irene Gilbert Theatre at Stella Adler (Los Angeles, CA)

"Angels in America"

Actors from the Stella Adler Academy of Acting & Theatre perform this modern American masterpiece that takes a wry look at the AIDS epidemic and the political and social climate of America in the ’80s. Angels in America follows the disintegration of two very different but equally troubled young New York couples whose fates become intertwined. Its large and wide-ranging cast of sharply drawn characters includes the notorious, AIDS-stricken lawyer Roy Cohn and the apocalyptic Angel who come together and clash over the personal, the political and the theological. In the second part of the story, the AIDS epidemic is escalating, the ozone layer is weakening and God has abandoned all mankind. Kushner creates a cosmic-scale portrait of legendary characters including ancient rabbis, blind revolutionaries, imaginary travel agents and, of course, angels. Written by Tony Kushner, Tim McNeil directs this essential play at the Stella Adler Theatre in Hollywood.
