Walt Disney Concert Hall (Los Angeles, CA)
Winner of the 2015 Grammy Award for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album, Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band performs a Swinging Tribute to Count Basie for the KJAZZ Summer Benefit Concert at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Made up of 18 of L.A.’s finest musicians, the Big Phat Band puts a contemporary spin on the big band tradition with a hard-charging, virtuosic style. Joining Goodwin is special guest guitarist Lee Ritenour. A protégé of the legendary Joe Pass, Ritenour was a founding member of contemporary jazz supergroup Fourplay, and has racked up 19 Grammy nominations. Also performing are Sara Gazarek, who the Los Angeles Times called “the next important jazz singer,” and a lineup of artists to be announced. As part of the Count Basie tribute, there will be on display never-before-seen photos and memorabilia of the trailblazing bandleader.
