Body painting is an ancient art form practiced by indigenous cultures worldwide and has become a popular art form in Europe. Now, more than 30 body paint artists, photographers and judges from around the world will converge for the first-ever body painting and photography competition in Southern California, at The Springs in the downtown Los Angeles Arts District. Hosted by modern burlesque artists the Boulet Brothers, the event will feature live body painting, a competition catwalk, performances by sexy dance troupe Bijoulette, live music from Robbie Fitzimmons and DJ sets by DJ Wolfie, Uru Majik and iPunx. Jason Bentley of KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic will serve as one of the judges and also DJ. Featured artists competing for the grand prize include Dewayne Flowers of Flesh and Colors, who has amassed a social media following of more than 100,000 people, as well as body painting legend and accomplished graffiti artist Wiser Oner, whose clients have included NBC, Clear Channel, Playboy, Absolut, Bacardi, Ed Hardy, Tapout, Penn and Teller and more. As you roam, watch the artists at work, take in the live entertainment, choose from healthy food options and organic wine and beer selections available for purchase, and maybe even get some art painted on your own skin!
