First United Methodist Church of Reseda (Reseda, CA)
Despite all the choral masses they composed, Bach, Handel and Mozart never once wrote an accompanying part for a banjo. In fact, it took contemporary composer Carol Barnett to realize that the heavenly majesty of the mass might need the earthy pluck of bluegrass music. Her resulting work The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass proves the two styles work in sublime harmony. Now San Fernando Valley Master Chorale, joined by fiddle, mandolin, guitar and string bass, performs this solemn, yet sparkling work. The program will also include a preview of the oratorio “Moses” by composer Sergio Barer at the First United Methodist Church of Reseda.
