Come to the future home of STEAMLabs – the makerspace anchoring the new Centre for Social Innovation building at 192 Spadina – for a day of epic proportions! We will ALL build a giant Rube Goldberg Machine in the space. Make with the supplied recycled craft materials, wood, pipes and tubes or bring your own from home. We’ll teach you on the spot to add LEDs, motors and other electronics to the creation.
Part of the machine will also be built in Minecraft! Computers will be set up for kids to build Minecraft contraptions to explode and fall into each other. At the end of the Minecraft machine, a signal will be sent over the Internet to a Spark Core Arduino microcontroller, activating robotic servos to trigger the real-world machine. Bring your own laptop to ensure a spot at the collaborative Minecraft build.
This event is also a part of the world-wide Mozilla Maker Party! We’ll be teaching HTML and CSS coding to customize a web interface for kicking off robotic parts of the machine.
Come for the whole day or drop by whenever you can to contribute! The BIG reveal will be at 4:00pm – move over OK Go – Toronto’s got this.
Who: Everyone is welcome, adults, kids and families! Everyone will contribute to the making. Please bring any materials you’d like to donate to the machine!
