Belasco Theater (Los Angeles, CA)
Legendary 1970’s electro-funk band Zapp headlines L.A.’s Old School Festival, bringing their influential grooves to downtown’s Belasco Theater. Throwback dance tracks like “More Bounce to the Ounce,” “Doo Wa Ditty” and more mellowed-out slow jams like “Computer Love” and “I Want to Be Your Man” topped the charts, thanks to the band’s signature talk-box sound. The group’s late, great founder Roger Troutman even scored a major hit lending their sound to the 1995 2Pac hit “California Love.” Now the Troutman Brothers and their band turn up to show just how relevant their music still is today. They’ll be joined by freestyle dance music siren Trinere, who kept many an ’80s club kid dancing with hits like “All Night” and “They’re Playing Our Song.” Old School Festival DJs will keep the party going in between sets, as they spin every retro song that ever got you popping, locking or body-rocking.
