The Art of Acting Studio Theatre (Los Angeles, CA)
At time when audiences are desensitized to even the most extreme depictions of violence, how is Shakespeare’s 400-year-old tragedy Macbeth still so sharply shocking? Maybe, it’s because the murderous Macbeth isn’t a robot from Outer Space, or even a charming psychopath — he is something much more dangerous: an ordinary person with an extraordinary desire for power. Now the Harold Clurman Lab Theater tells his story in a production set in an urban and violent post-modern Scotland. Driven by a supernatural prophesy, his own ambition and an adamant partner, the Scottish general slashes his way to the throne. But just as he grasps the crown, it starts to slip through his bloody fingers. With a cast drawn from The Art of Acting Studio’s Professional Conservatory, HCLAB presents this riveting masterpiece directed and adapted by Michael Keith Allen.
