With a live horn section and improvisational sound on a drum set accompanying three dancers, choreographer Samantha Blake Goodman’s EXCERPTS captures the heightened experience of our constantly in-flux present. Goodman’s unique attuned movement style, which draws on influences from traditional Afro-Brazilian dance to postmodern approaches, interacts with the score, lighting and costumes for a vibrant experience. To create this new evening-length work, Goodman collaborated with nine L.A.-based artists, including Crystal Sepúlveda, Samantha Mohr, Ted Byrnes, Pari Desai, Nicolette Mishkan, Katelan Breymar, Dayna Richards, Jaman Laws and Kathryn Nockels. See it at Highways Performance Space and Gallery in Santa Monica.
