Outfest 2015: "Liz in September"

You would think that offering audiences, in the words of one critic, “a virtual trip to the Caribbean, where the sun is always shining [and] the water is always clear blue” would be entertainment enough, but Liz in September (Liz en Septiembre) offers a powerful and gripping story, to boot. Mixing humor and heartbreak with the ease of a master, acclaimed Venezuelan filmmaker Fina Torres (Woman on Top) has adapted Jane Chambers’ play Last Summer at Bluefish Cove into an acclaimed film. Strong-willed womanizer Liz (Patricia Velasquez, The L Word) refuses to call attention to her health issues. When she meets the equally troubled Eva while on vacation with friends in the Caribbean, the two sense a powerful, unnerving chemistry that goes beyond anything either have felt in past romances. Now Outfest Los Angeles’ LGBT Film Festival screens this Spanish-language film at the famed DGA Theater.
