REDCAT: Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater (Los Angeles, CA)
Chelsea Elizabeth Manning was born Bradley Edward Manning. In July 2013 Manning was convicted for violating the Espionage Act and other offenses, after disclosing to WikiLeaks nearly three-quarters of a million sensitive military and diplomatic documents, and was sentenced to 35 years’ imprisonment. Field Visits for Chelsea Manning is a remarkable cinematic travelogue charting film Army Intelligence Officer Manning’s incarcerations from Kuwait, through Virginia and Kansas, to Maryland. Leaving no stone unturned, Lance Wakeling presents courtroom transcripts of the Wikileaks trial and the effects of the prison-industrial complex on the communities and economies in which detention facilities are erected. It’s being screened at REDCAT, one of DTLA’s hippest theaters, during Outfest Los Angeles’ LGBT Film Festival.
