This Spanish-language adaptation of Tennessee Williams’ powerful drama Sweet Bird of Youth is sure to produce the same sultry effect as the acclaimed original. A young Paul Newman once starred as actor-hustler Chance Wayne, who returns to his small Southern hometown in the debauched company of an aging, alcoholic actress. Though he hatches a blackmail plot against the ruined star, Wayne is still eager to reclaim his lost innocence by reconnecting with his first love, Heavenly. But her brother and her father, a powerfully corrupt and racist politician, have more violent plans in mind for the desperate drifter. This production by Medea’s Kids Theater Group opens the Bilingual Foundation of the Arts’ V International Theatre Festival at L.A.’s Plaza de la Raza.
