Fancy something a little bit different? Join us at the 7th Annual Queer West Film Festival where we’ve made the jump from our annual evening screening to a weekend film festival. From shorts, documentaries and full length features, we aim to showcase the very best of Canadian and international queer cinema from both emerging and established directors. We aim not only to celebrate and entertain but to highlight the issues that continue to affect our community at home and around the world. We’re Toronto’s second largest LGBTQ film festival. Running from August 7-9th, 4-6 PM, The Revue Cinema, 400 Roncesvalles Ave. Toronto Ontario

SYNOPSIS OF TODAY’S FILMS

1. Gay Healers – (Director – Christian Deker Germany) A documentary on Conversion therapy (also known as Reparative Therapy) is any treatment that aims to change sexual orientation (homosexual to heterosexual). Such treatments have been criticized as pseudoscience and have been a source of controversy in the United States and other countries. Run Time 30 minutes.

2. Tomorrow – (Director – Leandro Tadashi, Brazil) New Year’s Eve 1999 finds college-bound Clark and Trevor concerned about the future of their friendship, and a request for Clark to be Trevor’s wingman ensures things will never be the same again. Run Time 13 minutes.

3. Longing – (Director – Nadav Mishali, Ofakim Israel) As every month Michal dips herself in the Mikveh as part of a religious ritual that allows her to have sexual relations with her husband, but when the long-awaited night arrives, nothing happens between the two. Her husband’s absence, as well as the deterioration in the intimacy between them, evokes her suspicions about his true identity. Run Time 30 minutes.

4. No Face – (Director – Daniel Kulle, Germany) We are surrounded by commercial images. Everywhere we look, everything we touch is already marked with economical value. Things become even more complicated, if our identity is a gay one, an identity constantly needing to rearrange its relation to straight mainstream culture and constantly searching for a centre to form a reassuring subculture. .Run Time 6 Minutes.

5. Ladies and Gentleman: Phatima Rude! – (Directors – Paul R King & Joel landfield, San Francisco, CA) A gritty and intimate documentary follows queer, punk drag queen Phatima’s struggles and triumphs with illness, poverty, addiction, and gender identity. Run Time 17 minutes.
