MEXE (pronounced /mesh/ in Portuguese for move) is a contemporary dance performance that traces capoeira from its African roots to its oppression in colonial Brazil via the transatlantic slave trade, and finally to the international phenomenon it has become today. Audiences are invited to gather around a 360 degree stage at Shaw Park (Shaw & Queen W) and bring their headphones for an immersive experience with 3D sound enhanced by sensors worn by performers. Curated by SummerWorks Festival and IGNITE Toronto 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games.
