After 45 years of performing, 23 studio albums, a Grammy for Best R&B Vocal Performance (for the immortal “Don’t Leave Me This Way”), Thelma Houston debuts her latest project: My Motown, an all-new solo show at Catalina Bar & Grill. During a time when the newest pop “stars” are barely into their teens, it’s a pleasant shock to remember that Houston had graduated high school, gotten married, had two children and was divorced and working in the healthcare field when she got her first big break. Now she relives the entire journey — from her Gospel recordings for Capital Records, her debut album Sunshower and her elevator ride to the top with Motown Records — during an incredible evening of music. Houston will share intimate stories and behind-the-scene adventures in between renditions of classic Motown hits, including “I Heard It Through The Grapevine”, “I Second That Emotion”, and (of course) “Don’t Leave Me This Way.”
