Plenty of movie musicals make you want to get up and dance, but only one makes you want to stretch out your arms and spin wildly in an alpine meadow: The Sound of Music. Featuring famous songs like “Edelweiss,” “My Favorite Things” and “Do-Re-Mi,” the real-life tale of Maria and the musical Von Trapp family comes to the historic Aero Theatre. Based on the hit Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, the film follows a music-loving nun as she leaves the convent to care for the children of a widowed naval officer, just as their homeland of Austria is invaded by Nazis. Now, on the 50th anniversary of its original release, this Oscar winner returns to the big screen as a part of the Aero’s Family Movie Matinee series. As a bonus, all attendees will be eligible to win tickets to the stage production of The Sound of Music coming to the Ahmanson Theatre this fall.
