New Shoes, an ongoing series of new dance and physical theater works by emerging and established Southern California-based artists, is back for its sixth installment at Highways Performance Space and Gallery in Santa Monica. This year’s New Shoes 6 features Bernard Brown’s “Chromosome,” which blends text, movement and live music to create an eerie exploration of internal oppressions. Darrian O’Reilly’s “CreatureTube” uses viral animal videos as source material for a dance-theater piece exploring the purpose of violence, all set to the music of ’60s pop icon Brigitte Bardot. “Siren,” from choreographer Sophia Stoller, examines the complexity of the human psyche by portraying the different facets of a person’s conscious and subconscious mind through multiple dancers.
