Grand Annex (San Pedro, CA)
Harry Bridges, one of the most important labor leaders of the 20th century, comes to life in the long-running one-man show From Wharf Rats to Lords of the Docks starring actor-playwright Ian Ruskin. Drawing on Bridges’ fiery speeches, the words of his contemporaries, rare labor songs and archival footage, this show is a deeply human portrayal of the man who helped rally dock workers into better conditions and aided in the formation of the International Longshoremen’s and Warehousemen’s Union (ILWU). The play has been performed more than 200 times around the world, and a film version, directed by Oscar winner Haskell Wexler, airs regularly on PBS. Discover this colorful, intense slice of history that still resonates to this day at the Grand Annex in San Pedro.
