Hustlers Convention was profoundly influential. It was a sort of verbal bible to understand the streets. Jalals story needs to be told. Its a missing piece of Hip Hop culture.

FREE SCREENING AND Q&A

Toronto is about to be blessed with a special screening of the Hustler's Convention film, as well as a follow-up Q&A featuring the film's subject, Jalal Mansur Nuriddin a.k.a. "Lightnin' Rod"and Associate Producer Malik Al Nasir. Jalal is the founding member of the legendary Last Poets. Malik Al Nasir is a protege of both Gil Scott-Heron and the Last Poets. We are pleased to announce that Del Cowie will moderate the Q&A!

Hustlers Convention presents an unapologetic Rockumentary narrative that is as relevant now as it was when the album was first recorded in 1973. It was re-imagined onstage for the film at Londons Jazz Cafe on Monday, February 10th 2014 and was produced live by Jalals student – poet Malik Al Nasir of spoken word outfit Malik & the O.Gs who opened the show.

Filmmaker Mike Todd, explained: This is a truly global story. Rap, as a key part of Hip Hop culture, has changed the world. It has given a voice to people across the globe and yet, this crucial aspect of the arts origin is missing from history. We want to change that.

When Jalal asked me to produce the Hustlers' Convention live for this iconic feature Rocumentary in London, I felt the weight of hip-hop history on my shoulders. Jalal spent years in Liverpool mentoring myself and other poets, so presenting the Liverpool segment of the film was a huge honour along with people like Melle, Mel, George Clinton, Ice-T and Chuck-D."
