There are more cranes in Toronto than any other city in North America. Not even New York has seen this level of rapid construction. While many people are happy to see densification in the city, we don’t want to lose the essence of Toronto. In addition to planning developments so neighbourhoods are walkable, accessible, and vibrant, it is important to maintain some history.
How do we define which spaces have architectural, cultural, or civic value? How do we balance our desire to preserve history with our rapidly changing development needs? Is there value to hanging onto the past or should we only look forward as society rapidly changes?
Join us on May 11 to discuss with speakers Tamara Anson-Cartwright is a Program Manager for Heritage Preservation Services at the City of Toronto and is working on the Eglinton-Yonge study as part of the City’s Planning Department and Lynne D. DiStefano is a Professor and Co-Founder of the Architectural Conservation Programmes at the University of Hong Kong. She previously taught at the University of Western Ontario and has been extensively involved with UNESCO’s efforts in heritage conservation.
