The Upper Canada Choristers and conductor Laurie Evan Fraser present a musical tapestry exploring the cultures of the choir in their spring concert, Our Home and Native Lands.

Joining them are children from the Junior Choir of Montrose Public School and Cantemos, the Upper Canada Choristers’ accomplished Latin chamber ensemble.

The program includes music from Canada, the U.S., British Isles, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Scandinavia, France and Latin America. Among the highlights are pieces by Canadian composers – Stephen Hatfield’s Cantando flores, written especially for the Choristers; Imant Raminsh’s In the Night We Shall Go In; and Laurie Evan Fraser’s arrangement of the Scandinavian folk song, Who Can Sail.

Also featured will be This is My Song, a setting of Finlandia; a French Renaissance song, Quand je bois; Sakura from Japan, and Arirang from Korea.

Cantemos will sing a group of songs that includes Apamuy shungo, a song from Ecuador written in Quichua, one of the indigenous languages of the area; Carnavalito, a Bolivian folksong; and Rosas Pandan, a folksong from the Philippines reflecting the Spanish influence on that country’s culture.

Guests are requested to bring an item for the Daily Bread Food Bank.

Tickets are $25 at the door or may be reserved by calling 416-256-0510. Children and teens accompanied by an adult are admitted free of charge.
