The Toronto Comic Arts Festival is proud once again to announce TCAF KIDS DAY, a full-day celebration of great graphic novels for kids!

On Saturday, May 14th, TCAF once again takes over St. Paul's Church on Bloor Street East at Church Street for a day-long celebration of the best comics for young people! This year's feature presenters include creators Kate Beaton The Princess and the Pony, King Baby, Dana Simpson Phoebe and Her Unicorn, Alex A. Super Agent Jon le Bon, Faith Erin Hicks The Nameless City, and Kazu Kibuishi and Jason Caffoe Amulet!

TCAF KIDS DAY is free to attend, and includes author presentations, book sales at our pop-up Little Island Comics shop on-site, autograph sessions, and activities! Come see your favourite cartoonist, or bring the whole family for the whole day, no tickets are required! And this is in addition to the dedicated Kids Area at Toronto Reference Library too, so make sure to visit both venues!

Schedule of Events!

10:00AM: TCAF Kids Day Begins!

St. Paul's opens to the public, and each attending child will be given a FREE comic book while supplies last! Plus all day, there will be drop-in drawing and comics activities, and author signings to enjoy!

10:30AM – 11:30AM – Spotlight: Kate Beaton's The Princess and the Pony

Join Kate Beaton The Princess & The Pony as she introduces kids to Princess Pinecone and a very special little pony, and gives us a sneak preview of her forthcoming picture book King Baby from Scholastic! Presentation followed by a signing for The Princess and the Pony.

11:45AM – 12:45PM – Spotlight: Dana Simpson's Phoebe and Her Unicorn

Maybe you've seen the hilarious comic strip Phoebe and her Unicorn in your local newspaper, or in graphic novel format at your local library? Well come meet that series' creator Dana Simpson as she talks about how she became a cartoonist, and what it's like to draw Phoebe and Her Unicorn for a living. Her presentation will be followed by a signing.

1:00PM – 2:00PM – Spotlight: Alex A's Jon le Bon

Quebec's best-selling kids graphic novel author Alex A. talks about his series and its hero Super Agent Jon Le Bon, explaining how he began writing and illustrating graphic novels at the very young age of 8. Then, with Alexs drawing tricks and writing tips, the audience will be invited to express their own creativity by developing characters and drawing them! There may even be time for a drawing challenge based on audience suggestions! A signing will follow the presentation.

2:30PM – 3:15PM – Spotlight: Faith Erin Hicks' The Nameless City

Join cartoonist Faith Erin Hicks Adventures of Superhero Girl, Friends with Boys as she introduces her brand-new graphic action-adventure The Nameless City! Her presentation will be followed by a signing.

3:30PM – 4:30PM – Spotlight: Kazu Kibuishi and Jason Caffoe: Creators of Amulet

Cartoonists Kazu Kibuishi and Jason Caffoe discuss their careers and the process of creating one of today's best-selling graphic series, Amulet. This presentation will include a live drawing demonstration and Q&A with the audience. A short autograph session will precede the presentation, from 2:30PM – 3PM.

ABOUT TCAF and TCAF KIDS DAY!

TCAF Kids Day is part of the Toronto Comic Arts Festival, presented by Toronto Public Library and The Beguiling Books & Art. Welcoming over 400 cartoonists to the city each year, TCAF Kids Day just one way in which the Festival fulfills its mission "to promote the breadth and diversity of comics, and what is considered comics, as legitimate medium of literary and artistic worth…for the betterment of the medium of comics and to reach as wide an audience as possible for them."

Don't get confused! We also have a dedicated Kids Area, and a number of exhibiting authors with kid-friendly books, in our main exhibition area at Toronto Reference Library, in the second floor Bram & Bluma Appel Salon.

TCAF KIDS DAY is held at St. Paul's Church, located at 227 Bloor Street East, in between Church St. and Ted Rogers Way. It is a fully-accessible facility.

TCAF KIDS DAY is free for the public to attend. There are no tickets for any presentations, all admission is general audiences, first-come, first-served. All members of the public are welcome, but grown-ups should remember that this portion of TCAF programming is aimed at young children and attend accordingly. :
