In conversation with acclaimed critic and curator Sarah Milroy, Barnes will share his accessible approach to looking at artan authentic, intellectual and individual one in the age of the blockbuster exhibition. His dazzling new collection of art criticism, Keeping an Eye Open, draws on images, histories, opinion and biographya series of compelling essays about art by one of todays most acclaimed novelists.

JULIAN BARNES is the author of 20 previous books, including, most recently, Keeping an Eye Open: Essays on Art. He has received the Man Booker Prize, the Somerset Maugham Award, the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize, the David Cohen Prize for Literature and the E.M. Forster Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters; in France, the Prix Mdicis and the Prix Femina; in Austria, the State Prize for European Literature. In 2004 he was named Commandeur de lOrdre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture. His work has been translated into more than 40 languages. He lives in London, England.
SARAH MILROY is a Toronto writer and curator. She is the former editor and publisher of Canadian Art from 1991 to 1996, and served as chief art critic of the Globe and Mail 2001 to 2010. Milroy has contributed scholarly essays to many museum catalogues, including publications on Canadian artists Greg Curnoe, Jack Chambers, Gathie Falk and Mary Pratt. In 2015, Milroy presented her exhibition From the Forest to the Sea: Emily Carr in British Columbiaat the Dulwich Picture Gallery in London, England, and the Art Gallery of Ontario. She is currently at work on an exhibition of British modernist painter Vanessa Bell, scheduled to open in February 2017, as well as an exhibition on Canadian artist David Milne for London in 2018.
