Spurred by ongoing urban renewal taking place in Toronto communities, What would the community think? explores how artists navigate issues of gentrification and displacement from an critical, intersectional feminist perspective. Through performance, video, internet memes and installation, the exhibition questions the role of artists in the process of gentrification, and how critical acts may become productive forces for solidarity and action in our communities.

Window space: Stacie Ant

September 9 – October 21, 2016

Stacie Ant works with multi-media in order to create satirical work that comments on social behavior and trends on the internet. Ant's latest work has evolved into a series of video installations and performances that deal with New Age culture and conspiracy theories. This exhibition was created during Xpace's summer residency program for OCAD U graduates.

Project space: Dana Prieto

September 9 – October 15, 2016

Dana Prieto's practice explores spaces, materials and actions that embody constitutional stories of her cultural, class and gender identity. her work repurposes ordinary objects creating immersive installations that propose participatory experiences. This exhibition was created during Xpace's summer residency program for OCAD U graduates.

FREE, ALL AGES WITH 19 CASH BAR

Public transportation: We are accessible by TTC by the 47 Lansdowne bus, the 505 Dundas Street West Streetcar, or the 506 College Streetcar.

Parking: Xpace does not have public parking. Paid street parking is available on Dundas and College Streets.

Accessibility: Xpaces entrance is at street level with no steps. The galleries, office and gender neutral washrooms are all located on the ground floor. Service animals may accompany visitors at any time. Lighting and fragrance vary per exhibition/event; please contact us if you have any questions regarding these items.
