Scarborough Arts is honoured to present iAM Gallery in partnership with JAYU Human Rights Festival.

JAYU’s iAM Gallery explores the vital relationship between arts mentorship and the creation of safe spaces essential to sharing our personal stories. This year, JAYU collaborated with 19 Toronto-based artists to provide mobile photography workshops to 25 youth from Syria, Iraq, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. As artistic skills began to develop, so did our trust in one another. By creating safe spaces, we were able to explore the concept of home and how we define it.

In addition to the Opening Reception of iAM, Scarborough Arts will also host its first SA Talks panel discussion exploring the topic: Connecting Suburban and Urban Arts Communities. Hear from community leaders: Gilad Cohen, Founder of JAYU Human Rights Festival; Anne Wessels, Education Manager at Tarragon Theatre; and Louanne Chan, Executive Director at Reel Asian International Film Festival in conversation with Scarborough Arts' Program Director, Sasha Kovacs. The panel will engage in a discussion about the strategies and best practices for how downtown arts organizations can effectively partner with suburban arts communities.

Free. Everyone is welcome.
