Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman; Bela’s Munchable Potato, Chutney & Yogurt Snack: Embracing The Moon Pose

Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman

Although it doesn’t have an India based theme, I can’t resist a review of an old TV classic favorite of mine, Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, the soap opera spoof created by Woody Allen. There’s the cozy country-style lamp that shines a light on all of the family photos on that front table in the window. There’s also the warm, neat and inviting kitchen, including the typical small screen black and white television to watch while cooking, or waxing the kitchen floor, which is what Mary Hartman-Mary Hartman did on a regular basis. For her, it was what we would call, an open-eyed meditation. Mary would scrutinize the shine on the floor with single-eyed focus to insure that there was no “waxy-yellow build up”. For her, life was simple. Shop, clean, cook, iron. Perform simple ashram-like activities. Take care of her family in true “Karma Yoga” style. With the wit and wisdom of a Guru, Mary looked after her family and friends, including talking down criminals and teaching all of us about true blue goodness and good humor.

Bela’s Munchable Potato, Chutney & Yogurt Snack

2 large potatoes, boiled, peeled, and cut into 1 inch cubes

1 cup of canned chick peas

1 small onion, chopped

1 green chili, minced

¼ cup of plain yogurt (make sure there is enough to cover all ingredients)

1 tablespoon of apple butter or Tamarind Chutney (available at Indian groceries)

Salt to taste

1. Place all ingredients into a serving bowl.

2. Mix gently.

Enjoy

Embracing The Moon Pose

Stand with feet about 6 inches apart. Arms relaxed at your sides. Inhale and bring arms upwards overhead, palms together. Carefully fold arms at the elbows and place behind your head. Exhale while slowly bend to the left. Inhale as you come back up, then exhale, repeating on the right. Repeat two more times. Relax. You’ve embraced the moon.
