14 charged for drug trafficking in Markham

Members working out of the York Regional Police Drugs and Vice Unit have charged 14 people with drug-related offences after a lengthy investigation revealed drugs were being trafficked and sold to local citizens.

On Friday, April 29, 2011, investigators executed 14 Criminal Code search warrants in the Town of Markham and City of Toronto. The investigation was led members working out of the Drugs & Vice Unit and they were assisted by officers from various other investigative units within York Regional Police. The investigation centered on a drug trafficking organization supplying controlled substances, mainly marihuana, to Markham-area residents.

Michael CORNETT, 18, of Markham
Michael GERACE, 19, of Markham
Michael CLAYTON, 18, of Markham
Michael FORTE, 19, of Markham
Mustafa POPAL, 19, of Markham
Mitchell Raymond NUGENT, 18, of Markham
Johnnie Anton RIZK, 23, of Toronto
Michael LUCIANO, 18, of Markham
Omar SALAH, 20, of Markham
A 16-year-old male youth, of Markham
A 17-year-old male youth, of Toronto

CHARGES INCLUDE:

Conspiracy to Traffic Cocaine
Conspiracy to Traffic Marihuana
Traffic Marihuana
Possession of a Controlled Substance
Possession of Proceeds of Crime
Possession of a Prohibited Weapon
Breach of Recognizance
Fail to Comply with Probation Order

Some of the charged parties have been held in custody and all accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket throughout May 2011.
