RCMP has confirmed to have arrested a suspect allegedly found to be dangerously speeding at the highway while being drunk. In addition to that, it was mentioned that serious charges have been laid against the Saskatchewan man because there were half a dozen young kids in the back of the car.

According to a statement issued by the RCMP, the eastbound vehicle was found to be travelling at 149 km/h on Hwy. 1 near Suffield, at about 7 p.m. on Friday, and the situation quickly escalated from there. The officers alleged that the when the 21-year-old driver was pulled over, he was found to be impaired with children in back. The six kids in the back ranged in the age from eight months to nine years, one of which was unrestrained. Consequently, the RCMP has confirmed that Child and Family Services have joined Mounties in their investigation.

As of Friday evening, the authorities had the driver in custody and it was being determined who the children will be release to. Cpl. Chris Zanidean mentioned in his remarks that “we’re still investigating his relationship to all the children … the driver is related to all the children.” The driver is expected to be released after a court date is settled in Medicine Hat, where he will face charges for impaired driving and criminal negligence. Zanidean alleged that “anytime anyone’s driving is impaired, they’re not only putting their lives at risk, but everyone’s else’s lives at risk,” claiming that children in back “just makes it that much more important.”
