Google, in an effort to facilitate its users throughout the country, has agreed to buy Zagat, a guide to restaurants all over the country. This is an effort by Google to enhance the experience it’s providing to its customers.
The finances involved in the transaction were not disclosed. As far as the ownership of the website is concerned, the husband and wife duo will still remain involved in their business as the co-chairs.
Zagat is an excellent example of a small business that grew in to a grand business with millions of loyal readers. The restaurant guide started from a two page typed list and now contains a large database of every restaurant listed in the country.
Zagat faced difficulties in the internet market with other websites also offering the same. Three years back, after facing financial challenger, the company decided to sell itself. It has also partnered with online sites including the social networking website, facebook, foursquare and now Google.
The owners of Zagat expressed their excitement over the deal saying “We couldn’t be happier to see our baby placed into such good hands and are looking forward to being Googlers in the years ahead”.
