An Army officer including four militants and seven persons seem to be killed in a fierce overnight gun battle in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district. The encounter broke out at Awathkul forest area of Kralipora, 130 kms from the district last night.
The police assisted by Army, launched a search operation following information about presence of heavily armed militants as told by an official. Intermittent firing was in motion till late Tuesday afternoon. S M Sahai, IG of Kashmir said, “We have lost two policemen and an Army Lieutenant in the gun battle.”
Moreover, the casualties suffered by militants could not be ascertained immediately as “it is a difficult territory and so far we have not recovered body of any militant from the scene of the gun battle,” added Sahai
