2011 Barrymore Awards: Nominations Announced

Nominations for the 2011 Barrymore Awards have been announced. The selected winners will be revealed at a ceremony that is to be held at Walnut Street Theatre, scheduled for October 3. The Barrymore Awards are presented each year to commemorate the Philadelphia Theatre and its works.

As per the nomination announcement, Sarah Ruhi’s “In the Next Room or the vibrator play” have been nominated for 12 different categories, including Outstanding Overall Production of a Play and  Ourstanding Ensemble in a Play. Anna Deavere Smith’s Let Me Down Easy received a total of 6 nominations. It was also included in the category, outstanding production of a Play. Blanka Ziaka and Leonard Foglia have also been nominated for the category of Outstanding Director of a Play.

Apart from these nominations, various noncompetitive awards have also been made public. They include the Barrymore Tribute for Distinguished Artist in the Theatre which will be awarded to Terrence McNall. While r the Lifetime Achievement Award will be awarded to  Harry Dietzler, executive and artistic director of the Darby Summer Stage.

Performers have also been nominated owing to their individual performances in the plays. Notable nominations include Farah Bale, Melinda Chua, Charlie DelMarcelle, Jennie Eisenhower, Grace Gonglewski, Scott Greer, Dan Hodge, James Ijames, Damon Kirsche, Mel Sagrado Maghuyop, Rob McClure, Mary Martello, Kate Eastwood Norris, Stephen Schelhardt, Lavita Shaurice, Catharine Slusar, Ali Stroker, Leah Walton, and Greg Wood.
