Former Massachusetts House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi has been sentenced to 8 years in prison on the basis of felony. His conviction took place on Friday by the federal judge.

Democrat DiMasi is the third consecutive House Speaker to be found guilty on the basis of corruption. He would have had to serve a term of up to 20 years, however he appealed for a shorter sentence on account of his public service. He originally appealed for a 3 yea sentence however the court sentenced him to 8 years in prison. He was found guilty of assisting a software company in winning state contracts in exchange for kickbacks.

He served from 2004 till 2009 as the House Speaker.
