Someone from Montreal called 9-1-1 after noticing a woman acting bizarrely with her daughter in the métro on Sept. 16. The call eventually led police to a missing foreign young girl.

Pina Arcamone, director general of the Missing Children’s Network said, “He (the man who called) made a real difference. We are trying to get his name from the police. We certainly want to thank him.”

After receiving the call, 9-1-1 officers hurried to find Pearl Rose Gavaghan Da Massa, 7, of Manchester, England. She was later returned to her father, Henry Da Massa, on Sept. 21. The entire family is from Britain.

The mother of Pearl Rose, Gavaghan disappeared in Manchester in three years ago. The Montrealer who called 9-1-1 after noticing Gavaghan with Pearl Rose about 10 p.m. in the métro did not know about the missing reports.

Arcamone said: “What he saw was very unusual. She was holding her daughter very tightly and looking around as if she was very suspicious. So he followed them off the métro car when they got off. He said the little girl saw something and pulled away slightly, but her mother yanked her back sharply. That’s when he got really worried and called 9-1-1.”
