The U.S. is considering building fences along the U.S.-Canada border as a defensive measure. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency has put forward the idea of “fencing and other barriers” on the 49th parallel to manage “trouble spots where passage of cross-border violators is difficult to control.”

The agency is also thinking to incorporate a strong technological system through increasing the number of radars, sensors, cameras, drones and vehicle scanners. Additionally, it might persist on improving or expanding customs facilities at ports of entry.

Moreover, a suggestion was ruled out regarding the recruitment of “significantly more” U.S. Border Patrol agents to enhance the rate of inspections, noting staffing has already increased in recent years. Reportedly, nearly 3,800 Customs and Border Protection officers inspect people and goods at crossings.

The proposals are specified in detail in a new draft report by the border service that looks at the environmental impact of a variety of options over the next five to seven years.

The report reads: “The lack of roads or presence of unmaintained roads impedes efficient surveillance operations. Improving or expanding the roadway and trail networks could improve mobility, allowing agents to patrol more miles each day and shortening response times.”

  1. GOOD… make it a continuous wall, and make it larger than any other wall of its kind ever built… Canada’s tyrant leader Harper needs a daily physical reminder that CANADA is NOT the US. A wall would help all Canadians sleep better at night knowing that Harper’s Americanization of Canada will have a giant wall to scale, literally…
