Crown Counsel has approved charges in connection with the shooting death of a 17 year old Fernie resident, Michael VOTH, that occurred in Jaffray, B.C on June 16th this year. The police investigation determined that a 10 year old child had access to a firearm, and accidently discharged it, which killed VOTH immediately.

The owner of the firearm, 51 year old George Lewis PHILLIPS, is the step father of the 10 year old, and was a resident in the house at the time. PHILLIPS is charged with one count of Criminal Negligence Causing Death and one count of violating a Regulation pertaining to the Firearms Act (careless storage of a firearm).

PHILLIPS will be making his first court appearance on November 9th, in Cranbrook Provincial Court.
