The Manitoba Integrated High Risk Offender Unit  (MIHRSOU) is a joint forces unit of the Winnipeg Police Service and the  RCMP. MIHRSOU today provides information regarding John Eugene KAKEGAMIC,  45 years of age, a convicted sex offender who is considered a high risk to  become involved in further sexual offences.
Kakegamic will be released from the Regional  Psychiatric Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on November 26, 2010. He is  expected to take up residence in Winnipeg. Upon release, Kakegamic will be under  the terms of a long-term supervision order.
Kakegamic has a history of sexual offences in  relation to children, including Aggravated Sexual Assault, Sexual Assault,  Sexual Assault with a Weapon, Forcible Confinement and Invitation to Sexual  Touching as well as many other criminal offences. Although Kakegamic  participated in some sex offender treatment programs while in prison, he is  still considered a high risk to re-offend.   Young children, both male and  female, are at risk of sexual violence.

Background information:
John Eugene KAKEGAMIC  is a 45 year-old male with a criminal record for sexual offences against  children as well as numerous other criminal offences.
Kakegamic’s most recent sentence was imposed on  November 28, 2002. Kakegamic approached a nine year old boy on the street and  asked the boy to help him find his watch. Kakegamic took the boy to his  apartment where he threatened the boy with a knife and sexually assaulted  him. Kakegamic was sentenced to eight years in relation to these offences. He  will complete the prison portion of his sentence on November 26, 2010. Upon  release, he will be under long-term supervision for 10 years.  
Previously, in 1984, Kakegamic was sentenced to three  years for an Aggravated Sexual Assault on a 17 month old female infant. In 1989,  he was sentenced to ten years for a Sexual Assault on a 7 year old boy.  
While in custody, Kakegamic has received some sex  offender treatment. However, he is still considered a high risk to  re-offend. Male and female children are at risk of sexual  violence.
Kakegamic is expected to take up residence in  Winnipeg.
