The Ottawa Police Service Sexual Assault/Child Abuse Unit is investigating the report of a sexual assault that occurred on January 18 2011, in the area of Tartan Drive in the west end of Ottawa.

At approximately 9:45 am, a 16 year-old female was walking on Tartan Drive in Barrhaven when she was approached by an unknown male driving an older red SUV who asked for directions. The female was forced into the vehicle and sexually assaulted. The suspect brandished a handgun during the attack and drove the victim to the Fallowfield Road Park and Ride lot, where he dropped her off and left the area.

The suspect was described as a male in his 40’s, light brown- or olive-skinned, who spoke English with a French-type accent, approximately 160 cm (5’6”), of medium build with a slightly protruding stomach and dark, shaggy ear-length hair. He wore a beige suede coat, blue jeans, black work boots, glasses with thin black rims and a gold wedding band.

The vehicle was an older red 4-door SUV with winter tires and no hub caps, similar to a Ford Escape or Explorer. It had a front mount for a licence plate, but did not have a front plate. It had two front bucket seats and the rear seats had been removed.
