The Codiac Regional RCMP have laid several sexual assault-related charges against a 34-year-old Moncton man.

The man was arrested on Thursday, February 24, 2011 and appeared in Moncton Provincial Court this morning. He is charged with four sexual assault-related offences in relation to incidents alleged to have occurred against a girl, who is currently 10 years old, between January 1, 2004 and February 21, 2011.

RCMP received a complaint on February 22, 2011 and an investigation was immediately launched.

The man has been sent for a five-day psychiatric assessment and will return to court March 7, 2011 for a bail hearing.

The court has imposed a publication ban on his identity, as well as any information that could identify the victim. RCMP say the accused and the victim were known to each other and that they do not believe there are any other victims. The investigation is ongoing.
