Houston police are investigating the death of a man found after a fire was extinguished at 6601 Sands Point #13 about 4:10 p.m. on Thursday (Feb. 24).

The victim, Jose Alejandro Benitez, 32, of the above address, suffered apparent burns and was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Rodriguez and Officer M. Condon reported:

An HPD patrol officer observed a fire in the garage at the above location. HFD emergency personnel arrived and found Mr. Benitez in the driver’s seat of his vehicle. The car, the garage and Benitez had been burned. There was no apparent trauma to Benitez.

The investigation is pending Benitez’s cause of death, to be determined by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
