As many of you know, on Monday February 6th there was an accident in Stratford, ON that claimed the lives of 10 migrant workers from Peru. This tragedy has highlighted the conditions and risks that many of these workers take to provide for their families. Many of us have been very saddened by this especially as our Centre has worked closely with migrant worker communities and advocacy organizations. The staff at the Centre for Spanish Speaking Peoples would like to invite you to join us as we raise some funds for the families of these migrant workers. We will be selling food on Sunday February 19th and will be having some local artist for the community participate in helping us achieve this goal. In addition, we will screen the El Tomate documentary which involved working with migrant workers in Virgil, ON. We would like to ask for any type of donations to help us make this event successful either food or money would be greatly appreciated . 100% of the proceeds will be going to the Fund set up the UFCW to support those families. For more information please contact Christel at 416-533-8545 ext 520.
