Durham Regional Police and other emergency responders continue to search for a missing Ajax man who was canoeing on Lake Ontario last night.
On Sunday, August 5, 2012 at approximately 10:30 p.m., Durham Regional Police were called after one of two adult males in a canoe made his way to shore near the Whitby/Ajax border. The 28-year-old Ajax male had been canoeing on Lake Ontario when the canoe capsized. Both men in the canoe were wearing life jackets.
Officers began a search for the other man in the canoe — a 26-year-old Ajax male — and have called in the DRPS Marine Unit, Trenton Air & Sea Rescue as well as the Pickering Auxiliary Rescue Association (PARA – part of the Canadian Coast Guard) and YRPS helicopter Air2 to assist with the search. The DRPS helicopter is currently unavailable due to scheduled servicing.
