Five people sent to hospital after a head on collision, Bathurst, N.B.

On May 22, 2010 at approximately 10:30 am, Bathurst RCMP responded to a collision where two vehicles collided on Highway 11 near Bathurst.

Bathurst RCMP, along with members from the Bathurst Police Force and BNPP, arrived at the scene and began treating the individuals involved for injuries and shock. A northbound vehicle with a lone driver had crossed a double solid yellow line and struck a vehicle traveling south carrying a family of four. Members of the Bathurst Fire Department and Ste-Anne Regional Volunteer Fire Department used the jaws of life to remove both drivers from their vehicles. All five people involved in the collision were transported by ambulance to Chaleur Regional Hospital, where four were treated and later released. The driver of the southbound vehicle suffered serious injuries but non life threatening injuries and remains in hospital.

A section of Highway 11 remained closed for approximately two hours while emergency personnel treated the injured and conducted their investigation. Speed and alcohol are not believed to be a factor, however police are continuing their investigation to determine the cause of the collision.
