Two more veteran Progressive Conservative MLAs, Alana DeLong and Cal Dallas, have announced to not run for a reelection on Friday and entered into a growing list of P.C. MLAs who have assured that their current terms would be their last.

Calgary-Bow MLA for the past 14 years, DeLong, alleged it was not an easy decision due to the party leadership of Jim Prentice. She alleged that “we’ve got a real tough road to hold for the next while,” adding that “he’s such a strong leader, he’s such a good man that you just want to be part of that — that made it doubly hard to leave.” In addition to that, DeLong added that “as an MLA, you tend to get a real sense of responsibility and affection for your constituents. I really want to make sure I’ve got somebody looking after them after I was gone.” She alleged that “with the nominations opening up, if I was in there, the good guys just wouldn’t run against me because they know they can’t beat me.”

Whereas on the other hand, MLA for Red Deer-South, Cal Dallas, alleged that the time was right to make a change. He alleged that “I’ve always thought of this not as a job or a career, but a public service” adding that “based on the time it takes for a rookie to get up and running, one term didn’t seem like the right time. two terms, in my mind, does.”
