Arsenal Pulp Press, Broken Pencil, Coach House Books and Type Books present an evening of ‘dangerous literature’ Tamara Faith Berger and Daniel Allen Cox kick off their Toronto-Montreal-Ottawa ‘WOLF MAIDEN’ book tour at Supermarket (268 Augusta Avenue) with some help from Toronto writer Derek Lowes, whose story ‘Jody Gets It’ appeared in Broken Pencil. Berger and Cox are two of Canada’s most dangerous authors, exploring the realms of porn, graphic sex and abjection in fiction, and they are doing events in Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa (burning across the St. Lawrence!) this April. Tamara Faith Berger – Maidenhead Tamara Faith Berger (Lie With Me, The Way of the Whore) will read from her much-anticipated new novel, Maidenhead, traversing the desperate, wild spaces of the self-consciousness of a teenage girl, Myra, who enters unfamiliar worlds of sex, porn, race and class. ‘At the risk of sounding grandiose, Maidenhead is a masterpiece.’ Lisa Foad, Quill & Quire Daniel Allen Cox – Basement of Wolves Cox will launch his brand-new novel, Basement of Wolves. In this taut, beautifully layered novel by Lambda Literary, ReLit, and Ferro-Grumley Award finalist Cox (Shuck, Krakow Melt), Michael-David is a paranoid actor who feels that fame has ruined him. When a film shoot with wolves for co-stars takes a troubling turn, a haunting and cinematic romp through identity crisis begins. ‘A slick, sexy tale about hunger, fame and the lives we live below the surface.’ Brian Francis, author of Fruit and Natural Order Derek Lowes – ‘Jody Gets It’ Derek Lowes writes fiction and makes art in his spare time. He lives and works in Toronto, and will present a story that Broken Pencil editor Hal Niedzviecki describes as ‘sick, twisted, great.’ Wolf Maiden Author Tour: Toronto featuring Tamara Faith Berger, Daniel Allen Cox and Derek Lowes hosted by Broken Pencil’s Lindsay Gibb Saturday, April 14, 2012 Supermarket, 268 Augusta Avenue 7 p.m. Admission is free!
