This Wednesday, the Singapore President Tony Tan Keng Yam has appointed Justice V K Rajah, a judge of Indian origin, as the eighth Attorney-General of Singapore, according to a statement from the Istana issued today this 25th of June.

Rajah, 57, takes over the position from Steven Chong. The appointment takes effect from today, the statement further stated, adding that the President also appointed Justice Rajah as a Member of the Presidential Council for Minority Rights for a term of three years with which also takes effect from today. Rajah is the second Indian-origin person to become the attorney general of Singapore after Sundaresh Menon, the current Chief Justice of Singapore.

Justice Rajah was appointed a Judicial Commissioner of the Supreme Court on the 2nd of January, 2004 and a Judge on the 1st of November, 2004. He was appointed a Judge of Appeal on the 11th of April, 2007, the statement further informed. He has been the Chairman of the Singapore Institute of Legal Education as well as the Board of Judicial Learning since 2010.
