Hands down, the best live concert we ever experienced was Jimi Hendrix playing in Milwaukee with the British band The Soft Machine opening for him. We weren’t necessarily Jimi fans, a musician from The Soft Machine invited us, and we went to see THEM. But Jimi Hendrix completely blew us away! He was an incredibly powerful stage presence and he had style beyond our wildest dreams at that time. So, we have been eagerly anticipating the film of his life story. “All Is By My Side”starts filming this month in Ireland and it’s about Jimi’s early career years. Andre Benjamin from OutKast is tackling the tough role of Jimi, and while he’s sartorially appropriate, we wonder if he can sing like Jimi. The Hendrix estate proved to be SO uncooperative that all of Jimi’s songs are being re-recorded with soundalike musicians.
