Saif Ali Khan and Shraddha Kapoor all set to clash

It is going to be an unusual clash at the Box Office next July. Reason being that Saif Ali Khan is bringing his Chef on the same day as Shraddha Kapoor’s Haseena – The Queen of Mumbai.

“It was Haseena that was announced first. However, unveiling of plans surrounding Chef means it is going to be an interesting clash on July 14, 2017 when the two films take each other heads on,” informs our trade insider.

It has been a while since Chef went on floors and its shoot is about to be wrapped up soon. On the other hand the shooting for Haseena has just kick-started. “There was no choice but to bring Chef later in the year since Saif Ali Khan already has two other films lined up for release in the first half of the year. There is Rangoon on February 24, and then Kaalakaandi on April 21. His third film had to be spaced out and hence July seemed reasonable,” our source adds.

For Shraddha Kapoor though, it is going to be some competition at the big screen since Saif is looking at firing all cylinders with his Chef.

“The two films are quite different from each other so it should not be much of a worry for either of the two actors,” says an exhibitor, “Chef will be targeting primarily the multiplexes. Its very title has an elitist feel to it. On the other hand Haseena has Shraddha Kapoor playing Dawood Ibrahim’s sister. Again, the title, theme as well as treatment is expected to cater primarily to the single screen audiences.”

Chef is directed by Raja Menon, who delivered a super hit earlier this year in the form of Akshay Kumar’s Airlift. On the other hand the man behind Haseena is Apoorva Lakhia who is making a comeback of sorts after a disastrous Zanjeer [2013] that tanked big time.

“None of that matters though when the promo of your film does well. It is still early stages but once the promo arrives, it would decide how the two films will find their audience,” the trade insider continues.

Interestingly, Haseena – The Queen of Mumbai was earlier supposed to feature Sonakshi Sinha as the central protagonist, who later dropped out of the project. Had she stayed on, July 14, would have seen a face-off of sorts between the Bullett Raja pair of Saif Ali Khan and Sonakshi Sinha!
