Katrina Kaif has been working for women empowerment and several such issues for the longest time. Recently, Katrina Kaif was invited to speak at the WeUnite conference which marks UN Women’s partnership with the IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
During her speech, Katrina Kaif spoke about various issues faced by women and how they remain silent about it. She said that she knew most of the educated women who remain silent in the face of violence because they are afraid to confront societal norms and have fingers pointed in their direction. Especially, when the majority of the society has always failed to recognize marital rape as a crime. While urging more women to speak up when facing violence or other issues, Katrina continued that it is not okay to feel inferior or weak because women are not the weaker sex by any stretch of the imagination.
Katrina Kaif further talked about the world that has largely been led by patriarchal societies and women have, through the years, largely remained quiet in the face of atrocities rather than speak out against them. She said that India had a woman as the head of state, way before the United kingdom, a feat United states of America has not managed to achieve as of yet. It is sad to hear about the gender inequality in India.
Katrina Kaif went ahead talking about the unreported crimes faced by women under pressure. She informed that on a daily basis, there are shocking stories about the violent crimes made against women. Yet, one can only imagine how many other crimes against women in India go unreported. She added that she would like to believe that this increase in numbers is not an increase in crime against women. It is in an increase in a number of women who are ready to come forward and reporting them.
